Depression is real and don’t set it aside. It’s as bad as any other life threatening condition, only difference being that this one plays around with your mental stability. It forces you to think over and over again about the same thing, which ultimately takes you and drags you to a place of stagnancy. Your life will seem dull and you will be under confident. You will feel like an underachiever and even lose trust in yourself, and in everyone around you. And at times, speaking about it will only make conditions worse for you, because you will not feel at home. You will not feel like you are speaking to someone who understands you. Rather, you will feel even more suffocated.

If you don’t think you can get your message across, then don’t try harder. It will only make you suffer more. Imagine this situation, where you are holding a double edged sword and you are just going on tightening your grip. Won’t you bleed more?

But what if you leave the double edged sword and try and hold a candyfloss instead. Or a marshmallow. Will you still bleed? Will it still sting you?

Changing the person, you speak to can help. A lot. And trust me when I say this, at times, all you need to let it all out. There are deterrents, always. If the surface is too smooth, you’ll slip and fall. If the surface is too rough, you will not progress further. You need to find a balance.

People wont know what you want to say unless you say it out loud. Depression doesn’t make you speak more, right? We might assume that people understand us and hopefully they will figure out that what we are going through, they don’t. It’s really difficult for people to approach others and ask them if they are going through a rough phase. And for us to hope that they will come forward, we are just letting ourselves down in the process.

See, either you have clicked on it or shared it because you think you are going through depression (or a rough phase?), or you are assuming or know someone who is going through the same. Either ways, you need to make a conscious effort.

If you are a part of the first category, you need to understand that you are not alone. And there is always someone who is ready to listen to you. The person who has shared this post is ready to listen to you. The people who have liked this post are ready to listen to you. The editor of this website is ready to listen to you.

If you are a part of the second category, then you need to help others in need. A friend in need is a friend in deed, right?

At the end of the day, the faintest light in the darkest night is binding. It doesn’t matter if there are a thousand people who have gone through worse than you and have survived or given up. You are different, you are unique. You are ‘you’. Why do we fall? So that we can learn to pick ourselves up. Right?

To end with, I quote Batman.

“A hero can be anyone. Even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting their coat around a young boy’s shoulders to let him know the world hasn’t ended.”

Be the hero people need. You can make someone smile. You can help someone live
