Kaalakaandi is written by the people who made Delhi Belly. If you have seen that movie and didn’t like it then you won’t like this one.
This movie is about a bunch of people stuck in different situations and it all takes place in one night. It’s basically a series of random events that are sort of connected but also not really.
Saif Ali Khan’s character has just been diagnosed with stomach cancer so he decides to make an impromptu bucket list and starts checking things off it. Vijay Raaz and Deepak Dobriyal play couriers for a criminal and are contemplating stealing money from their bosses.
Kunaal Roy Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, Amyra Dastur, Akshay Oberoi, Shenaz Treasury and Isha Talwar, also star in the movie and they all do a decent job with the material they are given.
There were moments in the movie which made me wonder ‘How much LSD did the makers secretly slip the producers during their pitch?’ The answer being: All of the LSD.
In times like these where bounties are being placed on the heads of actors for portraying certain characters with alleged inaccuracy, this weird and completely unapologetic comedy got released without a hitch, which is great.
It was fun seeing a mainstream actor like Saif Ali Khan completely give himself to a crazy idea. He says and does the weirdest shit in this movie and sells every second of his performance. His bits in the movie were the most entertaining.
This movie will at least entertain you, even if it doesn’t surprise you. It isn’t as good as Delhi Belly but it’s fun and less than two hours long. Check it out if you have the time, you most probably won’t regret it.
